Deleting bots for good

“Resistance is futile.”

Holding bots back keeps them away from your sends. Deleting them clears them out of your store for good: out of your profiles, out of your counts and, where they never ordered, out of your Shopify customers too. However many there are, and however often they come back, the result is the same.

The store’s owner deletes everybody in a bot segment in one go. Pick Suspected bots, Checkout bots or Turned away as not a person, read the count, type the segment’s name exactly, and press Delete profiles. There is no undo.

Go to Settings → Delete profiles and press Choose… to start. Suspected bots is offered first and already chosen when your store has it. The count is taken the moment you choose, so it is this minute’s.

Only the owner can delete, and nobody at Carpe Messaging can do it for you. The deletion runs on its own, you can leave the page, and the row says what happened when it is done. The Deleting profiles page walks through every step, and how to delete one profile from its own page.

For the bot segments, the box Never let these addresses back is already ticked. With it ticked, every address and every phone number only they used is kept out for good, behind your store’s deflector shield: it never becomes a profile again, whatever door it tries, and nothing tells the bot it was kept out.

A banned address that signs up on one of your forms is thanked like anybody else and given no discount code. One that turns up in an order, a checkout or an import never becomes a profile either. A phone number somebody else in your store still uses stays open for them.

You can untick the box before you press. Then somebody who unsubscribed stays unsubscribed, and anybody else can come back later as a new profile.

When a deleted bot is also a customer in your Shopify store and has never placed an order, it is deleted there too, so the fake customers leave your Shopify admin as well. A customer with even one order is always kept in your store.

Checkout bots have never ordered from your Shopify store, so most of them are deleted in your store along with their profiles here. If a banned address turns up in your Shopify store again as a customer with no orders, it is deleted there again, at most once a day for each customer.

A deletion cannot be undone, by you or by us. Their history, their consent and everything held about them goes; only the record that a campaign was delivered to them stays, counted and never named.

“All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”

That is why the app holds bots back on its own and leaves deleting to you. A hold lifts when you choose This is a person. A deletion does not come back.

A bot you deleted with the box unticked can come back as a new profile. If it checks out again, the bot check catches it again, and the hold keeps your marketing away from it until you delete it again.

The segment is the standing net; deleting is the broom.
