Help · Getting started
Help center
The help is part of the app. Every page in it explains a screen or a task in plain words, and you can reach it from wherever you are without losing your place. No help door opens a new tab or takes you out of the app.
Open the Help center
Help is the last item in the app's menu, and it opens the Help center. Home's last panel, Before you touch anything, opens it too with Open the help center. It holds every help page, a search across all of them, and the last guides you read.
The landing is headed:
What can we help you with?
Under the heading are the search field and, once you have read something, the last few places you read. Then come three guides to begin with — Your first week, Import your people and Your first campaign — and then every section of the app with three of its guides. A section's name opens all of its guides.
The Help button on every screen
Every screen has a Help button in its header row, at the top right, apart from the editors below. It opens the help panel for the screen you are on, so the answer is about the thing in front of you. Where the row has a main button, Help stands just before it.
Four editors show the help glyph on its own instead of the word, beside their own buttons, so it does not crowd them: the template editor, the form editor, the campaign builder and the segment builder. It opens the same panel. The automation editor has no help door of its own; use Help in the menu.
Some screens also have a small help link beside one setting. It opens the same panel, at the part of the page about that setting.
The help panel
The help panel opens at the right edge of the screen, over what you are doing, and lists that screen's help page by heading. The heading for where you are is already open, showing its short answer. Open any other heading to read its answer instead.
The panel's title is Help · and the page's name. At its top is a field for asking Talaria about that page — see Ask Talaria below. The list under On this screen is the page's headings; only one is open at a time, and opening it again closes it.
At the foot, Related: names one or two nearby pages, and Open Help center takes you to the Help center's landing.
Close the panel with its ×, the Escape key, or a click anywhere outside it. Your work underneath is untouched.
Read the full guide
Under every short answer in the panel, Read the full guide opens the whole page in the Help center, at that section. Use it when the short answer is not enough. If you have unsaved changes, the app keeps you where you are and points you at the save bar, so you can save or discard first.
A full guide shows a trail at the top — Help, then the section, then the guide — so you can step back up. Beside the trail is a small search field. The trail and the search stay at the top of the window as you scroll, so you can step back or search again from anywhere in a long guide. On mobile the trail scrolls away and the search stays.
At the right, On this page lists the guide's sections and marks the one you are reading as you scroll. Under it, More in and the section's name lists the section's other guides. On a narrow screen, On this page folds into a line under the title that opens when you tap it.
The FAQ shows its questions grouped under the part of the app they are about, with how many questions each part holds. The first question is open and the rest are closed. Click or tap a question to open its answer, and again to close it; from the keyboard, Enter or the space bar does the same. One answer is open at a time, so opening a question closes the one that was open. A search result or a link that names one question opens it for you.
Search the help
Type in the search field and press Enter. The results are sections of pages, not whole pages, so each one lands you on the part that answers you. Every word you type has to appear, so add a word to narrow the results.
Each result shows which section of the app and which guide it comes from, the section's heading, and a passage with your words marked.
Buttons above the results narrow them to one section of the app, each with how many results it holds. All shows them all again. When there are more results than the list shows, a line under it says how many and suggests adding a word.
When nothing matches, the screen says so and offers the way back to the Help center. The × in the field clears it, and so does the Escape key.
Ask Talaria
Type a question in the field at the top of any help panel and press Enter, or search the Help center and choose Ask Talaria at the top of the results. Talaria answers in a few sentences from the help pages alone, and names the sections the answer came from, so you can read them in full.
Talaria is the assistant built into the app. It reads only the help — nothing about your store, your profiles or your team goes with the question — and it changes nothing. It names buttons, screens and fields in quotation marks, spelled the way the app spells them. Under every answer, Talaria found this in links to each section it used. When the answer is about one screen, Take me there opens that screen.
A search or a question can be up to 200 characters long; the search field takes no more.
When the help has no answer, Talaria says so rather than guess:
The help doesn’t cover that yet.
Under it is an address to write to, and a person answers.
Each store may ask thirty questions an hour. Past that, the answer says so and how long to wait. If Talaria is busy for a moment, it says:
Talaria is busy right now. Try again in a minute.
In the search results, Try again sits under any answer that did not come back, and asks the same question again. In a help panel, press Enter in the field.
Every question and its answer are kept with your store's data, so the help can be improved where it fell short. They are deleted along with the rest of your store's data when that is deleted after an uninstall.
Recently viewed
Recently viewed under the search field lists the last three guides you read in the Help center, each at the section you read last. It is kept in this browser only, so another team member, or you on another device, sees their own list. It is not there until you have read something.
Reading a guide again moves it to the front, so the three entries are always three different guides. Clearing your browser's data empties the list, and a private window starts with none; nothing else depends on it.
Guides and chapters
A long guide is split into chapters, each its own page. The guide gives an overview with a section per chapter, and the chapter names its guide in the trail at the top. Move between them with the list at the right or with Previous and Next at the foot.
Help for a section
At the foot of each section's menu card — the list of that section's screens — a Help for row opens that section's help, for example Help for Audience. That page lists every guide in the section, each with one sentence about it and its chapters.
